Growing up, did you pay attention to your mother’s moods, and then modify your behavior accordingly? I could tell just by looking at my Mom’s face whether I needed to watch that smart mouth of mine. Especially if I was angling for a favor, like an extra thirty minutes to my curfew or something. I would offer to dust, mop, scrub whatever, to help restore “balance.” Kids are ultra-sensitive when it comes to parents and their moods.
Because of their history, Dixie is definitely in tune with her Mama.
CHAPTER TWENTY TWO
The other Mama, the one with the temper that flared up like those strange solar storms on the sun, appeared again.

This lil whippersnapper Dixie has a mind to go with her mouth, huh. One more thing to like about her. Or to not like. But either way, to make her more interesting.
Yeah, this is a first sentence that absolutely follows the rule of forcing the reader to go ahead and read the second sentence. That’s the biggest job of the first sentence and any reader wants to learn a little bit more about this “other mama.” She might be a tad more interesting than the original thing. Is what I’m thinking, anyway.
I like that – lil whippersnapper is a perfect description. She and ole Mama butt heads quite often. Mama’s a piece of work now, I’m telling you.
