First Sentence Friday! CHAPTER SIXTEEN

It has been a bit bizarre to me, the circumstances for the weather this fall and the timing of my latest book, with its share of weather related suffering.  Evacuate is more or less what the Stampers had to do.  Then what?  Last week they were floating like dandelion pods, and since I don’t tend to let my characters off the hook so easy, dandelion pods they continue to be.  With nowhere in particular to go, the sentence this week also brings to mind The Allman Brothers song Ramblin’ Man, and particularly these lyrics, “Lord, I was born a ramblin’ man, tryin’ to make a livin’ and doin’ the best I can…”

That’s them, to a “t,” they’re ramblin’ along, hoping to land somewhere that will give them the break they so desperately need.

Chapter Sixteen

Papa insisted on going a bit further south each day, driving through little smatterings of towns here and there.

  1. What a great post, Donna! I’m still in Florida (until Tuesday). I love it here, and I love being closer to you! <3 <3 <3

  2. Great opening, as usual.

Why do I have such a hard time FINDING the first sentence when I come here? Am I doing something wrong? I hit BLOG in your nav bar, but that never gets me to your blog. I try HOME. Nope. Finally, I have to go to Search. And then, when I finally arrive, I can never click “Like” because it’s in perpetual “Loading” mode. My ISP and your website don’t seem to like each other!

    1. Hmmm. Funny you should mention that. I brought this same issue up to my website designer a few weeks back, meaning when I went out to http://www.donnaeverhart.com (checking to see how things are looking “out there,”) I had this same problem. My blogs weren’t loading up when I hit the BLOG link at the top of the page. He told me to clear my cache. He also told me to restart my PC after, and see if that fixed it – and it did, but now I’m actually having the issue again. So, I’m about to clear my cache, and reboot. I wonder if anyone else is having this issue?!?!?

  3. I love how evocative your sentences are… “Smattering” is the perfect word. I can see these little whistle-stops without any additional description. Brava!
