First Sentence Friday! CHAPTER TWENTY FOUR

I talked about first love in an earlier First Sentence Friday post.Β  This particular part of the story isn’t a sweet rendering of that one and only special first for Wallis Ann.Β  It’s more like a reckoning, a big realization perhaps all is not as it seems.Β  However, like any young girl whose heart is riding her sleeve, she’s still tuned in to every single thing done by Clayton.Β  More so in this case because she’s already discovered that because the relationship is not what she’d expected, or rather, not turning out the way she’d imagined, she’s become ever more diligent.Β  Her watchful eye follows his every move as she waits for something, anything to change.

Chapter Twenty Four

Clayton seemed to find excuses for being around.

    1. Remember the heart shaped water stain on the tent? Remember Momma questioning her, Wallis Ann’s real responses, then those in the italicized words? If you felt that, then I did my job. πŸ˜‰

        1. I’ve been reading the reviews starting to come in on Goodreads, and I think that’s what makes me most proud of the stories I’m trying to tell…other readers are saying the same thing. It makes me happy.

  1. Such an enticing sentence, Donna! I have to admit I’m very envious of those who have gotten to read this book. And it’s a known fact that I don’t get jealous easily… πŸ˜‰ <3 <3 <3

    1. It won’t be long now Lilac, less than a month! Which is hard for me to believe too. <3 <3 <3

  2. Oh my God, I figured it out. Wallis Ann is going to have a baby and name it Cher. The “born in a wagon of a traveling show” thing fits so well.

I hope things are getting closer for you, Donna

    1. Ahhh, hahahaha! Darn it! And I thought I was being so deceitful with my little hints hither thither. πŸ˜‰

Well, I guess they better be – have you seen my event schedule thus far? No time to be sick.

    1. Y’all are cracking me up. I’ve heard that phrase before – a bad penny. That’s a good one! Now I’ll have that “ear worm” the rest of the day, thanks to Craig. πŸ™‚
