First Sentence Friday! CHAPTER TWENTY ONE

By nature, I am a creature of habit.  I go to bed about the same time every night, and get up about the same time every morning.  Consider this; I have cleaned my house every Thursday for decades – no matter what – yes, even when I’ve been sick.  There are a myriad of other daily habits I perform the same way.   Even when I was going in to a “regular” job, there was a schedule I stuck to, and if I got off track by even two minutes, I would panic about being late, or  worry something was going to get fouled up.  I park in pretty much the same spot when I go to Wal-Mart or any store for that matter.  I could go on and on, but you get the idea.

What you will come to know about Wallis Ann is that aside from being a hard-working young girl, she’s very dependable, and she too is a person of daily rituals and habits.  She’s used to getting up and going to bed with the sun.  Meanwhile, being part of a traveling show means adapting to their outside influences, and finding out those changes have the ability to affect her in more ways than one.  It’s opening her eyes to how others cope, and live, to see that not everyone scraps out a living off the land.  It’s an easier way of life and certainly not like she’d expected.

Chapter Twenty One

I slept late the next morning, and when I opened my eyes, it was unusually bright inside the tent.

  1. I’m also a creature of habit, Donna! I actually like it because then I don’t need to waste extra time and energy on “mundane matters.” I’d rather operate on autopilot when it comes to the latter and write instead… 😉

I LOVE today’s sentence! Thinking of you and sending many blessings your way… <3 <3 <3

    1. That doesn’t surprise me Lilac, although you keep later hours than I do, if I recall correctly from your Movieing experiences and your wanderings at night in the park! But you’re right, when we repetitively do the same things, it does become like being on auto-pilot.

Thank you kindly for all your blessings! (and I don’t know how I missed your comment, but I did!)

  2. Sleeping in… what a concept. Sadly, it seems to be something my body rejects. Now, don’t take that to mean I like getting up, au contraire, but give me an opportunity to sleep late, and my body automatically sets an internal alarm to go off early. I’ve learned not to fight it. 😉

    1. I was getting up at 5:00 a.m. for quite some time, but not lately. I have been “sleeping in,” until 6:30 or so. I think it’s because I sort of dread getting up – you know why. I’ll be back to my usual before too long. Internal alarm – yep, that’s exactly why I was up at 5:00, the good “ole” brain kicking in, nudging me, whispering, “you ain’t gonna get those words written lying about in bed.” 🙂
