As we close in on the release date of THE FORGIVING KIND, I’m astounded at how time has zipped along over these last months. It’s hard to believe there’s only one more chapter to go after this one, and the book will be available to all. I’m a little anxious, a little excited, a little melancholy, but most of all proud!

Those with unpredictable behavior, the people who appear fine one minute only to change in the next, are difficult to be around. I’m currently reading the popular memoir, EDUCATED by Tara Westover, and several in her family are like this, but in particular one brother stands out. As I’ve read about the things he’s done, the way he treated her, I’m hoping he has a comeuppance – and soon. I’m a little over halfway through the book, so, I have no idea if he will or not.
Frank Fowler is a lot like Westover’s brother, acting a certain way one minute, only to change in the next, and while he strikes me as similar, he’s more conniving, hiding his true behaviors from Sonny’s mama. Sonny’s observations and concerns throughout the story have honed her abilities to see and sense this unpredictability, and she’s also discovered there is ritualistic manner to his outbursts and anger.

There was a pattern when it came to Mr. Fowler’s tirades.
I used to work for someone like that. He was a drinker and I blamed his moods on the booze but ya know looking back, he was simply a jerk.
I just downloaded EDUCATED to listen to on my walks. We’ll have to discuss it when we both finish. Happy almost-there.

You worked for someone like that, and unfortunately I dated someone like that. A total JERK of epic proportions. I’m coming up on the last five pages of EDUCATED. I wish I could read some of her essays.
