My word, y’all. There has been so much pouring in, I figured I better do a post just to make sure I’m able to keep track of it myself! Some of this will be a repeat for a few of you, but hey, good news is worth repeating, amIright?
First off, as many of you already know, THE EDUCATION OF DIXIE DUPREE is long listed for the Southern Independent Booksellers Alliance (SIBA) 2017 Southern Book Prize. I am in the company of some astonishing talent. There are still many days to go, but I am very honored and proud for my debut to be considered.
Second, while I was celebrating that with some of you on Facebook, I found out other great news related to…and this is the correction folks… THE ROAD TO BITTERSWEET is a Trio Book pick!
The talented, and brilliant Shari Smith dropped that wonderful little comment into the thread, sort of like, here ya go, have a slice of thrillng news.
Well, there’s more to it than that – short version here – but ya know me, my heart started flopping around, and no amount of deep breathing, or hand flapping helped. I have recovered sufficiently now to share this link so you can go and check it out, but essentially, a songwriter, and an artist are chosen who read the book and then create a song and art work to go along it. This is added into an exhibit with other books for that year – 2018 for THE ROAD TO BITTERSWEET – then, the exhibit travels to book stores, festivals, and other venues interested in having it.
More details to come, I’m sure, but that’s what I know now. HOW COOL IS THAT?
Third, was the news about THE ROAD TO BITTERSWEET also being a Publisher’s Lunch Buzz Book which I already shared in this post.
And last! I wanted to share now that THE ROAD TO BITTERSWEET is ALSO now available for pre-order on Amazon, if you want to order – like WAY ahead of schedule. 🙂 Other stores may already have it too. The convenient links are on the site
Release date is December 26, 2017, official publication, January 2, 2018.

Congrats on making the Southern Book Prize long list and on being nominated as a Trio book. That sounds like brilliant fun, and well deserved exposure.
The Road to Bittersweet is available to pre-order at bookdepository.com as well – can’t wait to receive mine between Christmas and New Year! Just wondering – what’s the difference is between the release date and the publication date (apart from one being in 2017 and the other in 2018!!)
Thank you, MA! I just found out it’s on BAM, and B&N too. The Trio thing is definitely a unique concept, very imaginative and GREAT exposure. Pretty exciting!
So, the only diff with release and pub, is simply about the purchase, and by that, the release date simply means anyone who ordered a book, it’s now “released” to be delivered. And then the pub date is just the official publication date. I think the reason they have the two different dates is so events can be planned and people can actually have a book in hand. For instance, last year I did my official launch of DIXIE on Nov 1st – although the book released on Oct 25th. That way, people could purchase it, and have it with them to be signed.
Ahh, I see. Thanks for clearing that up. Well, I should have a copy of Bittersweet in hand by the time it’s officially published, but showing up to the launch could prove a little harder…. I hope you post tonnes of pics of that exciting day.
