Last week I wrote about how I went through a tough stage while growing up, when I felt as if I didn’t fit in. I wrote that mine lasted from about 5th grade until 1oth. A few of you commented how your own difficulties with fitting in seemed to have lasted your entire childhood.
For as long as Jessie Sasser can remember, she’s felt like a misfit. This not only extends to her classmates, and to the local community, she feels this way within her own family A true outcast in all directions. I think it would certainly be the family part that would hit hardest for most. All of us need a place to feel like we belong, a place where we are included. Jessie sometimes can’t see what’s right in front of her, because her anger and resentment get in the way. But, as she begins to learn more about the legacy she was meant to have, there are moments when she purposefully lets well enough alone.
