Let’s face it. For the foreseeable future, things are going to be like – last week! The good news is, I didn’t have a root canal, or a tree taken down, but I did have to wrangle quite a bit with Mom’s estate matters. Going to the courthouse is almost like having that root canal.

At any moment, as we well know, our lives could be disrupted by an unexpected event. A little proactive preparation is always helpful, (i.e. like taking down that tree!) but sometimes it’s also a bit of thinking (hoping) x, y, or z won’t happen. Maybe we even think “it” can’t, not to us. If “it” does, we can’t help but look for reasons why, or try to rationalize what could have been done different. Depending on what has taken place, we often feel at a loss, and search for how we might have prepared better, or changed the outcome.
Jessie’s pragmatic way of thinking means she believes it’s only a matter of time before her family’s luck runs out, and what she has feared all along is bound to come true. When it does, despite all of her worrying, and certainty this would happen, she’s still in a state of shock as she watches what takes place.
