The book that gutted you. The book that when you were done, you let your breath out, and thought, WOW, I know I will read this again.
For me, I would have to say it’s THE STORY OF EDGAR SAWTELLE by David Wroblewski. It moved me to the point I squalled at several points while reading it. Yes, “squalled.” (read, snot cried) It was so tragic. So sad. BUT. What a story. I read it several years ago, but still think about it now and then. I’m going to go back and read it at some point – if my heart can stand it.

I created a fictitious setting for the story, a place called Shine Mountain. (that actually was the working title of the novel, but I was persuaded to go with THE MOONSHINER’S DAUGHTER. 🙂 ). Not only do the Sassers live on this mountain, so do the Murrys, their rivals, who are disliked by many in the community because they’re prone to violence, and drinking their bootleg liquor can be risky. Although there have been dangerous encounters with them over the years, time has passed without any incidents, yet, the Sassers are aware at any given time, something might set them off.
Jessie’s intentions to escape her family’s outlaw legacy is fraught with complications and personal angst. She makes a snap, last minute decision, driven by something she sees, and once done, there’s no turning back.

Just like the Murry still, the house fire made front page news.

I would have to say The Shack. I tend to read light, airy, escape everyday life books, lol.
I would say Before We Were Yours. Heartbreaking!!
I read a lot so it is hard to say just one, I to read the Story do Edgar Sawtelle, an amazing story and I think it was his first book. I loved Finding Dorthy by Elizabeth Letts. Since I have always loved the Wizard of Oz this just added to the depth of the history of the movie and characters. One of my favorite things to do is get lost in a book. The Nightingale by Kristin Hannah was a very moving story, and the story stayed with me several days after finishing it.
The Choices We Make by Karma Brown was the first book that came to mind. I read it a long time ago but it had a big impact on me and I’ll always remember it.
This I Know by Eldonna Edwards was the book that just knocked me off my feet. It continues to haunt me and I know it will continue to resonate in the future.
This is sad but honestly I can’t think
of one that resonated with me that much. 🙁 Still hoping to come across one that does that to me.
Yikes! Not even THE ROAD TO BITTERSWEET? Oh well!
I would say the Bronze Horseman. Just the time period alone is sad
.but there is so much loss and death but also the love between Tatiana and Alex. I read it usually once a year or so because I love it so much.
A Tree Grows in Brooklyn
The Clan of the Cave Bear series by Jean M. Auel, that series is a must read, we have her 6 books and the books are real page turners and they are awesome! Theres all kinds of emotions you get from reading this series, I loved reading this series! The Moonshiners Daughter and The Forgiving Kind sound like they are real good page turners and like books I would love to read, I will be adding them to my TBR list. Have a Great weekend. The book that changed me and still does every time I read it is To Kill A Mockingbird. First, I read it as a school assignment, and was touched by injustice. I cried over Boo Radley, and was amazed at the wisdom of a white lawyer representing a black man. When the glass was thrown, the verdict SHOULD have been not guilty.So obvious…but so many blinded to the truth, which did not set a black man free. I’ve read it countless times since, and still weep. Injustice still exists And I am reminded of all the times as a classroom teacher I wept when I taught Black History. A white teacher who thought nothing of kissing my black students, as if to apologize for the injustice that loved ones before them experienced. There are still so many Boo Radleys in the world, and we have yet to learn the lessons they can teach.
The Boy In The Striped Pajamas. It was so good, moving and heartbreaking of an end but I can’t read it again, I couldn’t go through all the pain again!
We Were Yours. The sad injustice represented in that book led me to do even more research on the Tennessee Children’s home and Georgia Tann. I couldn’t stop thinking about the families that were torn apart!
The Fault in Our Stars by John Green. It was amazing.
